Botox Q&A

Botox® is an FDA-approved treatment to improve moderate to severe frown lines, crow’s feet, wrinkles, and forehead lines.

Botulinum toxin injections utilize neurotoxins to block nerve signals to your muscles. This causes your muscles to weaken and refrain from contracting. This process causes the skin on top of the muscle to become smoother.

Botox is a nonsurgical, temporary form of wrinkle treatment and you can expect a quick recovery time after your procedure.

What does Botox treat?

Botox cosmetic injections can smooth wrinkles and fine lines in several places on your face and surrounding areas including your:

  • Nose
  • Eyes (crow’s feet)
  • Eyebrows
  • Forehead
  • Lips
  • Jawline
  • Neck

Dysport® is another similar injection that MediFreda offers. It temporarily treats frown lines, specifically between the eyebrows, by reducing specific muscle activity. After just a 10-20 minute treatment you can experience results in two to three days that can last up to five months.

What happens during a Botox procedure?

You have your Botox injection procedure at the MediFreda offices. Your provider numbs the area with a mild anesthetic to ensure you’re comfortable. They then use a tiny needle to inject Botox into your skin.

The procedure only takes a few minutes, and the number of injections depends on the size of the targeted treatment spot and your overall cosmetic goals.

Afterward, you can return to your daily activities. You should avoid rubbing the treated spot for 24 hours and avoid lying down for two to four hours after the procedure.

Botox injections begin working one to three days after the procedure and you can expect to see optimal results in about a week. Botox can last three to four months and your provider works with you to determine the frequency of your next treatments.

Are there any side effects with Botox?

Side effects from Botox are minimal, but potential symptoms include:

  • Pain or bruising at the treatment spot
  • Inflammation or redness
  • Flu-like symptoms
  • Headache
  • Nausea
  • Pain in your neck
  • Drooping eyelids
  • Blurred vision or irritation
  • Muscle spasms
  • Facial muscle weakness

Most Botox side effects are only temporary, but contact MediFreda if you experience any of these symptoms and have questions.
