What are lip fillers?
Lip fillers are a type of dermal filler that uses synthetic hyaluronic acid (HA), a substance found naturally in your body. Your provider at MediFreda injects this substance through gel form into your lips to restore volume and shape.
Popular brands of lip fillers that utilize HA are Juvederm®, Restylane®, and Perlane®.
What are the advantages of lip fillers?
Lip fillers are a quick and easy procedure that offers many advantages, including:
Lip fillers are a safe procedure with a low risk of side effects, complications, or allergic reactions. The results are also reversible, meaning your provider can immediately dissolve the filler.
What happens during a lip filler procedure?
Your provider performs the procedure at the MediFreda offices, first applying a local numbing cream to the injection site. They may offer a nerve block injection to completely numb your lips. About 15-30 minutes later, your lips are appropriately numb.
Your provider then uses a fine needle to inject lip filler into parts of your lip that may include the edges, curve at the center, or corners of your mouth. You can expect to feel a pinching sensation, but no pain. Your provider may apply an ice pack to your lips throughout to alleviate any swelling and bruising.
The procedure may take anywhere from 30 minutes to two hours and your provider monitors you throughout the procedure.
What happens after a lip filler procedure?
Your provider at MediFreda may encourage a follow-up appointment two weeks after the procedure to monitor your progress. They may offer healing tips like:
Lip fillers diminish gradually, usually 12-18 months after your procedure. Your provider works with you to develop a treatment plan that best suits your cosmetic goals.
