What is PRFM?
Platelet-rich fibrin matrix (PRFM) is even more restorative and stronger than the popular platelet-rich (PRP) treatments. During a PRFM procedure, your doctor draws your blood and then uses the safe and effective Selphyl® PRFM process to spin the blood in a centrifuge into a highly concentrated version.
This process condenses the platelets in your blood, which are essential to grow, heal, and stimulate your cells and tissue. This concentration is higher than traditional PRP treatments, which stimulate healing for a day, whereas PRFM encourages healing for up to a week.
What does PRFM treat?
PRFM naturally stimulates cell development and extends your cell growth cycle, addressing the root of aging issues and not just the symptoms. It can treat several concerns including:
PRFM uses your own blood so there is no chance of an allergic reaction, eliminating any need for a trial period or prior testing.
What happens during a PRFM procedure?
After performing a thorough exam and determining you’re a good candidate for PRFM, your provider at MediFreda draws a small amount of your blood. They use the Selphyl system to rapidly prepare your sample of blood.
The system safely removes any contaminating cells and doesn’t require an operator technique like many PRP systems. The controlled process then converts PRP to PRFM, creating a scaffold that protects and preserves your platelets.
Your provider then numbs the injection site and you should only experience temporary discomfort. They inject the blood into the target site on your skin, taking around 20 minutes of your time.
Afterward, you may experience mild redness, bruising, or itching, but it should resolve quickly. Your provider may recommend using an ice pack to improve any tenderness. Currently, there are no known side effects with the Selphyl process.
The number of PRFM treatments you need depends on your cosmetic goals. You can collaborate with your provider to schedule an effective treatment plan.
